Target nutraceutical technologies for a smarter and sustainable Irish fish aquaculture industry
HYDROfish will benefit producers in rural regions of Ireland where fish farming provides an important part of local investment and employment.
Technologies generated from HYDROfish will transform existing fish products into a high-value commodity with potential for use in aquafeeds - creating secure long-term jobs in the rural community focussing on the marine bio-economy.
Reinforce Ireland's strong aquaculture industry without placing more burden on the environment. HYDROfish will foster a robust spirit of enterprise, innovation and skills - providing sound opportunities for a youthful injection of talent into local, rural communities.
Developing into a network with related businesses and commercial activities to enhance the labour force and attract new bio-sector SME’s and green technologies to rural Ireland.
HYDROfish aims to provide a low carbon and climate impacting technology based on maximising the efficacy of a natural fishery resource by exploiting its bio-transformation into products of ‘added value’. We intend to develop safe and ethical technologies within a transparent bio-secure process using advanced and sustainable practices in keeping with natural systems. This transition will enable Ireland to be a leading nation in this regard and empower its local and regional skilled personnel and community.
Conserving our natural waters and maintaining effective stewardship of our precious biological resources whilst safeguarding the environment is core. HYDROfish will allow fisheries derived materials to be converted into novel ingredients by steering processes less reliant on water and reducing potential biohazards associated with fishery waste treatment and management. As the human population increases, water savings will be increasingly important to food and water security and will depend on sustainable harvest and low water footprint growth of marine aquaculture.
